Ford fiesta ST 2018 gets a smaller yet thumping engine


Ford has shared some juicy bits in the form of a teaser image and a short video of its upcoming model, Ford Fiesta ST. The teasers have already got us excited. The fiesta ST is to make its first appearance in the Geneva Motor Show where it will face the world. The manufacturer look enthusiastic for their coming up release. Only some details regarding the engine and specs have been carefully disclosed keeping rest a mystery and we have to wait until next year to find out more.

New drive mode system

A new drive mode system is to be introduced in the car that has three selectable modes. The driver can easily choose from Sport, Normal or Track modes. Switching between different modes also has an impact on engine response, steering, stability control and active exhaust behavior. The mode should be selected wisely as per the terrain. Normal mode is suited for daily drive whereas Sport is to control sharper throttle and better steering response. The Track setting is ideal for giving best lap times by cutting traction control and loosening the intervention of the stability system.

Compact energetic Engine

The engine is claimed to be compact in size but powerful in capacity. The former 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder has been replaced by a more efficient 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. The new Fiesta is to follow the footsteps of its predecessor by generating same 197 horsepower yet with an increased torque of 290 Nm. The previous model had a torque of 240 Nm.

Ford has introduced a latest mechanism of cylinder deactivation that will help improve fuel economy. Owing to this feature, the fuel to one of the cylinders gets cut off during times of low load making the engine an efficient one. The question that probably hit your mind is; how long does the cylinder takes to switch supply to the third engine back on? Ford claims that this engine takes just 14 milliseconds to engage the disengaged engine which is a satisfactory figure.

The exterior is absolutely ravishing offering choice of a new Liquid Blue paint for exterior. The car gets 18-inch wheel designed to perfection. The car is thought to have some slight design amendments with a more modern look and feel.

The interior gets a finer look with more personalization option than before. Flexible options include: wider trim options for the gear shifter, steering wheel, door pull and dashboard to go along with the Recaro sport seats and flat-bottom steering wheel. The infotainment system is just in line with the rest of the car. Integrated with a built-in Apple Carplay and Android Auto for smartphone connectivity on the go. While a premium B&O sound system can always be added on to enhance the audio system of the car.

The 2018 Ford Fiesta ST will hit the market early months of the next year. Sources tell that the car will be out with its three and five door variations.
